Money, money, money.

Or lack thereof. I have just taken a rather large wage drop & am already feeling the effects & it’ll probably get worse from September when I start college as I’ll probably have to cut back on my hours. However I am not disheartened by this as it means I can cut back on the mindless I-want-consumerism that I have allowed to slip back into my life since here

So… that means staff food at work (it’s free & ok as long as the veggies aren’t green beans… ick!), buying a monthly bus pass next pay day (a saving of at least £40), remembering to use my (newly obtained!) Boots Advantage card to get millions of points, not buying a magazine just for the sake of it when the one I want isn’t there… & maybe subscribing to the one I do want as it works out cheaper in the long run & cuts back on temptation!

I haven’t had a haircut in seven months & I trim my own fringe (fear not I am a connesieur!) as well as dying my own hair (£6 vs £40) & i’ve decided not to go to the hairdressers until December just in time for my birthday 🙂 I am quite intrigued by the idea of washing my hair au natural a la And Then There Were Four but I don’t think I’m brave enough!

I’m planning an Ebay sale for some of the stuff stashed in my room, including two gorgeous dresses (both approx £100 new but now too big) so I’ll give you a heads up when I open up shop! A friend of mine told me about musicmagpie so I’m going to gather up all my old CD’s & DVD’s & send them off. I’ve also banned myself from buying any nice new shiny things (read ‘materials’) for my jewellery making until I’ve used the massive stash I’ve already got sitting at home!

I’m feeling quite inspired by Buying Nothing New For A Year although I’d have to really think about what my parameters would be having tried to do a similar thing with clothing here. Anybody out there got any money saving/money making tips they want to share?

Have a peep here for money saving ideas x

Crafty excitement!!!!

So I’ll be honest, I have been stuck in a huge non-creating rut, for quite a long time now. I’m excited about college in September & I’ve got a few days off and have a list of a few small crafty mends to get done for a couple of friends & my mum but have not really been feeling up to due to ta lack of inspiration. Even browsing my favourite blogs has failed to boost me….
But this morning everything changed! I have bought & perused issue one of Mollie Makes & I am so excited! It’s such a beautiful magazine, the photography is gorgeous, it features Rob Ryan, Emily Peacock & one of my absolute favourite bloggers & crafters, Dottie Angel. There are a few crafty how-to’s in there, complete with stencils & a free gift… I used to love buying Frankie but haven’t been able to get my mitts on it in some time so I’m soooo glad I spotted Mollie Makes! Somehow having beautiful images actually on paper in front of me is more inspirational for me than the online blogs that I look through…
Due to general excitedness & actually a need to do something I’m off but I’ll leave you with these visions of loveliness…

PS. I have about 6 old mobile phones kicking around, all of which are pretty ancient & not even worth sending to those money-for-your-mobile companies… anyone have any suggestions what could be done with them?? Or do you know of any charities that take them for recycling purposes?

Emergency Winter Survival Pack

What would you have in your Winter Survival Pack??? My mum has been snowed in for 36 hours plus now & had no electricity for almost the full 36 hrs… it’s back on now thank goodness. Unfortunately her entire village is electric only so she couldn’t go anywhere to get warm & she couldn’t cook. She has survived on tuna rolls & cheese on crackers!

Luckily she has plenty of magazines & books to read & two puppies to keep her entertained & warm. She had a torch & plenty of candles luckily and blankets so she did manage. The electricity was on for an hour and a half yesterday morning so she managed a cup of tea but I think I’ll be getting her a Thermos in case it happens again. And a battery run radio, plenty to keep entertained, paint, wool, puzzles etc. and plenty of tinned fruit. I’m glad the electricity is back on I was very very worried, but she is ok 🙂
